Random Events

From Delta-V Wiki
Revision as of 11:19, 29 October 2024 by LadyDanger2743 (talk | contribs) (Added Bureaucratic Error, Cargo Gifts, and Gas Leak gamerules. Will need to add ATS to Supply Crates and link it to here.)

wMost standard rounds aboard a station have an "event scheduler", which will add additional complications as the round progresses. These can range from harmless pests emerging from the vents, to a sudden onset of zombies ready to bring the station into utter chaos. Generally, all game modes will use the BasicStationEventScheduler system, but the Survival game mode will use a much more chaotic RampingStationEventScheduler, designed to cause increasingly more drastic problems as the round progresses.

Events Table

Below is a list of all events. Several events share the same announcement text, and will thus be grouped into one category. For example, the Vent Critters event has several possible critters that it could spawn. Other events have a variety of announcement texts that they can create, as well.

RANDOM EVENTS TABLE
Event Name Event Command Announcement Effect
Anomaly Spawn AnomalySpawn "Our readings have detected a dangerous interspacial anomaly. Please inform the research team about (sighting)."

Sightings include:

  • low pulsating sounds heard throughout the station
  • strange sources of light
  • inexplicable shapes
  • forms causing severe mental distress
  • strange effects on the local environment
Spawns one Anomaly somewhere aboard the station. This Anomaly will then behave the same as any other Anomaly.
Artifact Spawn BluespaceArtifact "Our readings have detected an incoming object of alien origin. Please inform the research team about (sighting)."

Sightings include:

  • bright flashes of light
  • strange sounds coming from maintenance tunnels
  • otherworldly structures
  • incomprehensible alien objects
  • unfamiliar objects in strange places
  • unknown alien artifacts
  • explosions of light accompanied by wierd sounds
Spawns one Artifact on a random tile onboard the station. This can include the Escape Pods attached to the station.
Breaker Flip BreakerFlip "Based on (data), we have opted to disable specific APCs to avoid damage to equipment. Please contact the engineering department to re-enable them."

Data includes:

  • scans from our long-range sensors
  • our sophisticated probabilistic models
  • our omnipotence
  • the communications traffic on your station
  • energy emissions we detected
Shuts off anywhere from 3 to 7 APCs randomly on the station. If all APCs have already been manually toggled off, no APCs will be disabled.
Bureaucratic Error BureaucraticError "A recent bureaucratic error in the Organic Resources Department may result in personnel shortages in some departments and redundant staffing in others."

"A minor clerical error in the Organic Resources Department has resulted in the permanent destruction of some station records." There is one announcement each for the Bureaucratic Error and the Clerical Error; one event is chosen when the gamerule runs.

BUREAUCRATIC ERROR: Has a 25% chance of making a random job on the station have infinite job slots. Otherwise, 20 to 30% of the station's jobs will either lose (to a maximum of -3) or gain slots (to a maximum of +6).

CLERICAL ERROR: will remove anywhere from 2.5% to 10% of the station's records of crew. Crew whose records are removed will not appear on the Crew Manifest, and will not have an entry on the Security Records console. They will retain their role, accesses, and Mindshield status, however.

Gas Leak GasLeak "Attention crew, there has been a gas leak on the station. We advise you to avoid the area and wear suit internals in the meantime."

"The source of the gas leak has been fixed. Please be cautious around areas with gas remaining." There is one announcement for when the event runs, and for when the gas stops leaking.

Chooses a random tile on the station, before releasing anywhere from 1000 to 4000 moles of a gas. The gas is released at a rate of anywhere from 80 to 200 moles per second, and can include Ammonia, Plasma, Tritium, Frezon, or Water Vapor. The event can fail to choose a valid tile, but the announcement can still run.
