IC

Frequently used terms In Character, this can also be used OOC.

Analyzer

Most often refers to health analyzers, but it can also refer to gas analyzers.

Antag

Short for Antagonists, which are specifically picked individuals designed to drive the round into chaos.

Artifact

A bizarrely-shaped item of unknown function. They can have any number of strange random effects, and discovering what these items do is one of the main goals of Xenoarcheology.

Atmos

Short for Atmospherics.

Atmosian

A term for Atmospheric Technicians, or generally anyone who spends most of their time or is particularly skilled with Atmospherics.

Borgs

As a noun is shorthand for the cyborgs. As a verb refers to the process of a human being turned into a cyborg, usually by a roboticist. Currently mostly used to talk about Robots.

Braindead

Used to refer to a player who has logged off, gone away from keyboard, or been disconnected before or after dying. When Examined, you'll get a message like "They have a blank, absent-minded stare and appears completely unresponsive to anything. They may snap out of it soon."

Please note that even though someone may not be playing anymore, it's still against the rules to murder their in-game character if you are not an antagonist.

Bridge

The command center of the ship.

Brig

Part of security where people are taken by officers after being arrested. Incarcerating someone in here and leaving them in there indefinitely is bad practice.

Cap

Short for the Captain of the station.

CentCom

Short for "Central Command", the administration branch of Nanotrasen which oversees the station you inhabit. Will periodically send messages to the station which are usually of debatable usefulness. Also refers to the area the emergency shuttle goes to when it leaves the station.

CE

Short for Chief Engineer, the head of the Engineering Department.

CMO

Short for Chief Medical Officer, the head of the Medical Department.

Crit

Short for critical condition. Refers to the health state at which you fall unconscious and unable to move, which is when you're below 0% health. While in critical, your health slowly decays until you die, unless you happen to get outside assistance.

Critters

Animals, insects and monsters.

Cryo

The cryogenic healing pods located in Medbay. Can also refers to Cryoxadone.

Disk

The Captain's authentication disk. Of considerable importance in the nuclear operatives game mode. Could also refer to the research disks used by Epistemics.

Disposals

Catch-all term for the disposal system of pipes and conveyor belts leading to the waste disposal area where trash goes to die, and the disposal chutes.

Emag

Also "Cryptographic Sequencer". Another name for the electromagnetic card traitor item.

EMP

The destructive effect of traitor EMP grenades.

ERT

An Emergency Response Team. These may be dispatched by Central Command for a number of purposes.

EVA

The place with the space suits, jetpacks, gas tanks and a bunch of other tools and cool toys.

Floorpills

Umbrella term for mystery pills, syringes, drinks or food with unknown contents that are found on the floor. For some reason station crewmembers often think it is a good idea to pick pills off the floor and take them, inject themselves with random syringes, and so on. Doing so can be fun but can also kill you. Proceed at your own risk.

Gib

As a noun, the bloody, torn-apart remnants of a former living being. Human and monkey gibs are bloody meat chunks, robot gibs are bits of scrap metal. Usually created by people being blown up, incurring divine wrath, or taking a lot of BRUTE damage. As a verb, the process of being killed in a way that destroys your body, so that it is impossible to revive you.

God

A somewhat tongue-in-cheek term for admins. Players do not literally worship admins or consider them bonafide supernatural deities; this is simply a way to refer to admins or explain admin shenanigans in-game without breaking character/immersion. For example, if an admin blows up the Captain, someone might say "the gods killed them in divine anger!" or "the gods work in mysterious ways" rather than "the admins butt-gibbed them." Or, the Chaplain say might that if you fetch them a person to sacrifice, they'll say they'll "ask Space God for a blessing" rather than say "use the prayer command to ask the admins to give me something."

Greytide/Greyshirt/Tider

Typically utilized to refer to an Passenger due to the color of their standard uniform, though this may be used to negatively refer to other crew members (not only passengers) who act unruly or commit various minor crimes.

Hacking

The act of breaking the security measures on equipment such as airlocks or APCs by illicit means. Is a misnomer since no actual computer hacking is involved most of the time, only screwing with electrical wiring.

HoP

Short for Head of Personnel, head of the Service Department.

HoS

Short for Head of Security.

Mysta

Short for Mystagogue, the head of the Epistemics Department.

LO

Short for Logistics Officer, the Head of the Logistics department.

Nukie

A slang/shorthand term of a Nuclear Operative. May sometimes also appear as "Nuke Op".

Newkie

A portmanteau of "New" and "Nukie" used to refer to an inexperienced player in the role of a Nuclear Operative.

SSD

Short for Sudden Sleep Disorder or Space Sleep Disorder. This is an in-character way to refer to a player who has disconnected and is no longer responding.

Syndie/Syndi/Syndicate

A catch-all reference to anyone employed by the Syndicate. This ranges from (suspected) Syndicate Agents to Nuclear Operatives.

Flukie

A portmanteau of "Fluke" and "Nukie" used to (usually derogatorily) refer to a team of Nuclear Operatives who fail their objective. May also appear as "Fluke Ops".

Nanotrasen/NT

Nanotrasen is the company which owns the space station you inhabit.

Spacing

An event which causes an area to lose air pressure, i.e. a hull breach.

Spess

An intentional mis-spelling of "Space". May also appear in words such as "Spessmen".

TC

A telecrystal, which is a currency used by Syndicate Agents to purchase restricted contraband such as weapons and other illegal equipment.

OOC

Frequently used terms Out of Character, this can be in the OOC chat channel or in the Discord/Forum. These terms refer to behavior or information outside of the game and should not be used in-character (IC).

Admeme

This can refer to silly shenanigans done by an admin, a round dominated by such, or the admin(s) behind them. It can be positive (e.g. "an admeme spawned as a living golden toilet and turned my arm into a toilet, lmao"), neutral (e.g. "Was that weird gun an actual thing in the game or just admemes?"), or negative (e.g. "ADMEMES GODDAMN RUINED MY TRAITOR ROUND"). In addition to being a noun, it can also function as an adjective (e.g. "Haven't seen too many admeme rounds lately.") Some also simply use it as an silly word for admin, antics or no, but this is comparatively rare.

AHelp/Admin Help

A relay used to report rulebreaking behavior or other issues to administrators. Adminhelp is where you should report any grief you may come across. If there are no admins currently on, your adminhelp will still be sent to a dedicated Discord channel where there are usually a couple of admins.

Bwoink

An in-game admin PM, typically in the context of receiving them (e.g. "I'm afraid I'll get bwoinked if I'll try that gimmick") or an admin sending them (e.g. "The admins will bwoink you if you try to TTV the nuclear bomb.") "Getting bwoinked" is essentially a colorful term for "getting in trouble": though admins send PMs for many other reasons (e.g. helping someone sort out a bug, responding to someone who sent a report), one of the more common uses (i.e. the one players most often associate with admin PMs) is talking to players who've broken the Rules. The admins themselves don't use the term "bwoink" very often; it's a lot more common among players (i.e. non-admins).

Deadchat

A chat channel dedicated to the dead, which can only be seen by other dead players.

Greentext

When an antagonist completes all the antag objectives they received. So-called because at the end of the round, when the game lists out each antag's objectives, there's some green Success! text if they managed to fulfill an objective.

Upstream

The baseline version of the game. Any changes to Upstream will "flow" down to all other forks of the game. All official Wizard's Den servers work off of Upstream.

LRP

Low Roleplay. Servers marked LRP typically have relaxed roleplaying rules.

MRP

Medium Roleplay. Servers marked MRP usually have a decent basis of roleplaying rules and generally require players to act as their character would realistically in a given situation. Less leeway is afforded to behavior such as openly defying Security or your boss.

HRP

High Roleplay. Servers marked HRP generally have extensive rules on what is and is not constituted while playing a character. You are generally required to act as your character would, have a character backstory, and follow protocol on the station. Some HRP servers may create their own lore or settings to further facilitate the type of server they wish to host.

Self-Antag

A term for a player who engages in antagonist-like activity without actually being an antagonist. This encompasses a wide variety of behavior, but is typically used to describe annoying behavior or actions which are greatly detrimental to other players for no purpose. Self-antagonism is a bannable offense. Sometimes used in IC.
